Task 2 - Research

E4 is a British digital television channel, launched as a pay-TV companion to Channel 4 on 18 January 2001. The "E" stands for entertainment, and the channel is mainly aimed at the lucrative 15–35 age group. The broadcasting station hosts shows from the U.S. such as The Cleveland show, How I Met Your Mother90210One Tree HillUgly BettyScrubsRules of EngagementThe Big Bang Theory.

Some U.S. imports, such as Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty are screened on E4 up to one week ahead of their Channel 4 broadcasts. Its most successful broadcast to date was on 11 October 2010 when an episode of The Inbetweeners pulled in over 3.7 million viewers.

The broadcasting station E4 has carried out a competition called Estings for around ten years and lets people from around the country to create short animations that promotes E4. These animations can vary between 10 and 30 seconds and to not have a specific preference all they have to do is show the E4 logo in the video the competition is open to anyone and the best sting is chosen and used in there advertisement breaks between shows. the way they pick the winner of the stings is by airing there favorites on the television and from there the judges will pick a winner. The winner will get a prize of £5000 and the runner up will get £500.

Originality and creativity are what they decided on when picking the best sting the video are created by the people but sound beds are given to them to choose from and use as the sound of the video. The judges are made up of creative people from E4 and the general public. Finally the video must have the E4 logo integrated into the idea not just slapped on at the end looking out of place.

These are four popular stings that can be seen quite regularly on the adverts between shows. These are different stings created by different winners and finalists.

BBC Three:

BBC Three is a television channel from the BBC broadcasting via digital cable, terrestrial, IPTV and satellite platforms. The channel's target audience includes those in the 16–34-year-old age group, and has the purpose of providing "innovative" content to younger audiences, focusing on new talent and new technologies. The channel is on-air from 7 pm to around 4 am each night, to share terrestrial television bandwidth with CBBC.

Unlike its commercial rivals, 90% of BBC Three's output is from the United Kingdom and other European Union countries. 70% is original, covering all genres, from current affairs, to drama, to comedy to animation. BBC Three has a unique 60 Seconds format for its news bulletins, adopted so that operation of the channel could be completely automated, without the complication of dealing with variable length live news broadcasts.

BBC three also create little adverts between shows that always feature the BBC three logo in different and original new ways. these ads only last around 10 seconds but show off the creative and flare that it has to offer by integrating the BBC three logo in strange and wonderful scenarios.

Here are a few examples of those ads.

these six images will always show the BBC Three logo in and around the scene. most of the time when this is used the Three logo will be piping and having various or just one colour leading through it.
